waiting for snow

Dear friends, merry Christmas to you and a happy new year!

Thank you so much for following this blog, although updates were rather rare the last months.
I promised myself to take more time for blogging again with the next year.

Therefore, hope to see you again. Take care and enjoy the cookies.

yesterday evening while watching TV....

Kay had sent me a bunch of vintage craft books, one is about cutting folded paper.

A very simple, but yet so satisfying technique because of the quick, sometimes unforeseeable results,
at least if you fold the paper more than once. Maybe also a good way for overcoming creative slumps.

I used notes, scissors (and cookies)

Have a nice weekend, lovelies!

on my fridge

this post begins with a little lie. Pardon!
Instead on the fridge the magnets are actually pinning on our dishwasher (the fridge front is already overloaded),
but I thought dishwasher might sound too dull for a title ;).

Nevertheless I´m very happy how they came out and I think they are really cute.
The 2 magnet sets, the viking notebook and some new postcards are already available on this site (German only)
and will be in my webshop soon too.

Frankfurter Buchmesse

back from the bookfair. It was crowded and loud but interesting. I took some blurry pics of the Little Tiger stand.
The viking notebook I already had seen before. Besides my Viking and Circus postcards they also showed 2 new sets of fridge magnets which I show you tomorrow, have to take pictures first.

Happy weekend to you!

new studio

Saturday we brought home all my studio stuff and distributed it all over the house. But meanwhile the most important
things are in place. Working from home again feels good and right. After all I had expected becoming a little sad, when
closing the old studio door for the last time and handing out the keys today. But surprisingly this didn´t happen.

Here´s a glimpse of my new studio, after the furniture was in place.

Thank you for your comforting comments on my last post. We buried Pieps under a rose bush in the garden, close to us.
Her daughter Moppel is still searching for her, which is hard to watch.
But she acutally recieves a lot of attention and care.

was her name and she left us today, at the age of 19. She will be missed dearly.

Tomorrow is my final studio move

Have you seen Elisas give away already?

100 Book Covers to fight Illiteracy

this is my contribution to the doedemee project 100 Book Covers to fight Illiteracy

"100 people from 28 countries, based on credentials and interests, creating an international and diverse group of contemporary artists. Each of these artists has re-covered a classic novel that appears on the Observers list '100 Greatest Novels of All Times'."

Posters were printed and an exhibition of the collection was opened on September 8th International Literacy Day, in Antwerp City Hall. The expo runs until September 16th. More exhibition sites will follow. UNESCO is also supporting this project.

Have a look here at the amazing collection of posters, or on facebook. Posters are also sold online. Profits of sale will be donated to the fight against illiteracy.

I´d be happy if you like my poster :)

Thank you for helping spread the word!

hello dear readers, are you still here? My blogging vacation took longer than my real vacation. Right now I´m in the middle
of moving mania. Packing, giving away furniture and rearranging our home.
The picture shows the first and only set up corner of my new home studio, the rest is still chaos.
But sometimes I´m already enjoying views like this from my new studio window.
Enjoy the weekend!

before I´m off for vacation, I´d like to leave you with a magical short stop motion movie by PÉTER VÁCZ

Some making of informations and pics to find on his blog

Have you heared about the book "Blogging for creatives" written by Robin Houghton already?
So far, after flipping through the pages, I already can say, that it seems to be a worth reading blogging guide,
from basics, like how to set up a blog to how to get the best out of it. Hope to write a short review after my return.

Wishing you a good time until we meet again!

sentimental summer

summer arrived for a few days

a garden visit

awakens sentimental and nostalgic feelings. Childhood memories

Sunday, July 22, 2012

Dear readers, in case you wondered ... I´m still alive

In the meantime

... I turned 43
... made some new ribbon designs for Kafka (hope to show you a sneak peek soon)
... and cancelled my studio

I very much appreciated your personal experiences and thoughts on my last post, thanks so much for sharing it here!
Finally I reached a decision. I will move out from my current studio by end of September.

The last months I had worked a lot from home already and didn´t use the studio as often as I could have.
So I hope I won´t miss it too much.
For now a home studio seems more effective for how I work and will save a lot of money too.
Space will be limited, but I´ll have a separate room again with a small balcony.

I already like the idea of having 24 hours a day access to all my stuff and tools again.
Something I am really missing right now.

Hope you are all doing well. Talk more soon

where do you create?

after a while a longer post...

let´s start this day with some distraction, let´s say with a short video of Zoé de las Cases great living and working space.
{Zoé has a nice collection of doll house kitchens and the mirror collection in the bathroom is pretty too}
It seems Zoé has created the "perfect" place for her living and working under the same roof.

Over the last years I have created in different places.
{2003} I lived in Cologne and my pre-herzensart studio was a small room at home, I used for my paintings

{2004/2005} I rented a tiny studio outside, just for some months, as I found out it didn´t work for me.
Therefore I moved everything back home and turned the large living room into my new studio
(a cheer for tolerant husbands)

{2005}still the same living room studio, but my art went into a new direction, after a sewing machine
and Friederike! (the blue sheep) came into my life. It was the beginning of herzensart

{May 2008} we moved to the country side and again the living room became my new studio.

I really enjoyed the garden view and the kitties enjoyed my omnipresence.
But the space felt too small soon and working at home all day felt lonely very often.
So again, I looked for a studio outside and found it in a former factory.
By the beginning of 2009 I moved in and that´s where I´m still working.

What I´ve learned is, that having a studio outside has advantages and disadvantages.
These days I´m going back and forth, brainstorming about pros and cons, debating what´s the right place
for me right now and if I should move my studio back home again, or continue to pay a monthly rent.
I feel I have to find my answer soon and will keep you updated about my decision.

If you are an artist/designer/crafter I would be very interested in where you create.
Do you work from home or is your studio outside? Have you found your ideal place and why?
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.

new stuff

a preview on Little Tiger´s autumn catalog 2012, with new herzensart items,
like a viking notebook, fridge magnets and some new postcards, in addition to the spring
launched viking and circus postcard series.

this week I managed to stuff some viking asses again ;)
3 in number (patting myself on my back)

But, one of them has smashed my door and I have a vague suspicion ...
(dear reader please kindly ignore the white hair jumping right into your eyes)

Giada, a blogger from Italy wrote a nice post about  my work. Grazie mille!

I like Rike´s new breakfast plates very much

heute - schmidt

Friday I met 3 lovely ladies. Silke and Anja, the owners of heute-schmidt had invited Katrin, the head behind
lingonsmak and smakdesign and me into their studio for some screenprinting on fabric.

Katrin made such a cute sea pattern. Maybe you can guess who did the vikings...

Thank you ladies for this great day!

The beautiful screenprinted fabrics and items from heute-schmidt are available on
 dawanda and etsy

actually I wanted to make the water spirit Loreley, but at some point I lost control and

Have a good weekend!
