pinkmilk makes me think of my grandmother. She made the best straw- and raspberrie milk for us kids from
the berries in her garden.

pinkmilk is also the name of a lovely shop in Osnabrueck and an Online-Shop with a delicate range of mother
and child products.

They also write a blog called pinkdrops. Today I have the honor of being featured with an interview

Last year I was asked to make some Viking and Zirkus card designs for Little Tiger Verlag,

a German publisher.

This is a print proof of 12 Viking and 12 Zirkus themed cards. They finally choosed 16 cards.

The cards had been guests at Frankfurt book fair and will be presented this weekend at
early bird fair in Hamburg.

In spring they will conquer the book and gift stores (at least I hope ;))

On the desk: the cards that made the race.
The illustrations are based on paper collage again.

a new order Grenadier and Telephone ribbons arrived today
so the telephone ribbon is now available again

the lovely bag with London bus and Telephone ribbon is from valen-tonia
Now it´s mine, mine, MINE :)

The amazing Kafka team also experimented with using Lurex thread for the Telephone,
which I think looks lovely too, especially for the Xmas season.
I got a very small bunch of these glittering ribbons, only a few meters
of each color, which I added to shop too.

The old looms are currently busy weaving the London bus ribbons again, so these should arrive next week.
But small amounts of the 3 colors are still available.

The apples are ripe, so I baked an APFELKUCHEN. It was sooo yummy

German WOHNIDEE magazine (current issue) wrote a nice and long article about Baenderei Kafka,
the old weaving mill, that also made my Little Britain woven ribbons - happy to find them also mentioned.

I´m always so exited and grateful when a dear customer is sending me pictures.

I´m grateful for the link to a movie that Lizette yesterday left in her comment.
This movie sadly shows what tragedies all that plastic trash, floating in the ocean, causes.
I read that 18000 pieces of plastic are floating on every square kilometre of ocean.
Can you imagine that? It makes me mad!

I think avoiding plastic whenever possible, picking up plastic from beaches, or generally from nature
are just a teeny tiny help, but something everyone can do.
Afterwards dispose the trash safely or make something out of it

it was a loooong way, but now only the signature on the back needs to dry yet before they are ready
to take over their guardian job. I Can´t tell you how happy I am that the first run is finally done.
It consist of only 6 handpaínted matte guardians.

Along with a very laborious and complex process, many unpredictible obstacles occured during the manufacturing.
Therefore it remains to be seen if there will be any more than these 6.
But I really hope to find a way for continuing this project, because I love these figurines very much.

the softest gift

a lumbago attack is with me since end of last week. Today I couldn´t sit anymore and finally had to overcame
my doctorphobia.
After some pain killer injections in the back plus a bit deeper
and a relaxant treatment for the night, I´m now looking forward to sleep straight through the night!

The rest of the day I spent at home, wrapped in a beautiful granny blanket.

It´s so soft and cozy and is keeping the back perfectly warm.

The blanket was made by my beloved friend Cornelia and given to me as a gift.
Thank you Conny, I love you!

Saturday I held my first KOMPOTTfabrik "workshop" {despite lumbago - call me tough}.

KOMPOTT = COMPOTE = a mixture
in our case = a mixture of crafts, creative events, workshops for kids and adults, crafty people,
networking etc.

I´m back. Yesterday was my birthday and I got a new little pocket camera, that I took
to a vernissage in a gallery for outsider art , situated in a an amazing old building of a former waterworks.
I so have a thing for old brickstone buildings.

yesterday was cold, grey and it rained the whole day.
I thought not many would be leaving home on such a uncomfortable day for
visiting the weaving mill

[after setting up my little nook, freezing and a bit nervous; the coffee machine in my neck -> good place]

But they came, many many people dropped in wanting to see the weaving looms in action, the beautiful Kafka
ribbons, the exhibited handmade items and the newest Little Britain ribbons.

I was so happy to meet Elisa and Paul
and Martina and so many other nice visitors and exhibitors.

There was a big hello for my ribbons, some already had heard of in the Kafka newsletter, or seen it on my blog,
but when the first spools sold out, I was really blown away.

Many thanks to Christine Niehage and her team for a wonderful day in a cozy atmosphere (~~besides~~ despite :) the weather).
Thank you Michael for all the ribbon cutting and help.

preparing for tomorrow

WOW, what a fantastic response to the ribbons and give away. Thank you so much, dear readers!
You came up with many great ideas what you could use the ribbons for.

The last days I was preparing for my little stall for tomorrows ROSENFEST at Bandweberei Kafka.
I have sewn small items which I decorated with the ribbons and I was thrilled to see that they look great in
combination with various fabrics and different patterns. After my practical test I love them even more now.

Some of you already told me that they plan to visit us tomorrow.
Oh I´m so excited and I look forward to meet you!!!

Hopefully the weather god is gracious to us.

herzensart ribbons woven on museal weaving looms

I´m so excited and proud to show you my newest herzensart edition

A while back Christine from Bandweberei Kafka, an old weaving mill dating back to
1898 asked me if I could imagine to turn some of my LITTLE BRITAIN designs into a limited edition of
woven ribbons. I could´nt hardly believe my luck, my designs woven on museal Jaquard looms.
OF COURSE I COULD, of course I wanted!

Below is a short slideshow to share with you the process, from the very start, making the design by cutting papers,
converting it into a point-paper-design, producing card-to-tape converters,
assembling the more than 100 years old weaving looms with countless small thread spools
and after a lot of clattering and rattling recieving the most beautiful woven ribbons.

I made 3 different ribbon desings, a Grenadier, a red telephone box and the London Bus.
The first 2 will be available soon, the London Bus will be following later.

The selling of the ribbons starts with this event:

ROSENFEST at Bandweberei Kafka on Saturday, June 25th 2011, 11.00 am

a market with nice handmade little things, something tasty and a look around in the old weaving mill.

I will be there with a small stall as well.

Later on the ribbons will be available exclusively in my webshop and at Bandweberei Kafka.

I made a new cape for another love knight

the come back of the dream guardians

back in 2006, during a "white period" I began making dream guardians,
These wallsculptures were sewn from white acrylic felt, not my favorite material to work with at all,
but I couldn´t find a pure white wool felt, so it was kind of a compromise using the acrylic.
In the end it´s been this compromise that stopped me making them.
But I always knew the dream guardians would come back and I only had to find the right material.

About one year ago the idea came up to make porcelain guardians.
It seemed to be the perfect material to me for these white creatures and I was very thrilled by this
thought (always love to try out new materials).

A long way with several attempts in making models from plasticine {1} and clay {2} followed,
the search for somebody to help me with the porcelain casting, the firing etc.
I was very lucky when a ceramist from Berlin responded to my request I had posted in a pottery bulletin board.

She wanted to try making a casting mold directly from the felt figure {3}, which turned out not that easy
and of course the felt figure didn´t survive this process {4,5}

All in all it´s been a time-intensive and complex process with much learnings. But to make a long story short,
it all turned out very well in the end and today I find myself happily doing first steps in painting

today I finished a project that kept me busy for a while and I´m feeling kind of happily relieved*sigh*

I made several postcard designs based on paper collages for a German publisher, which will be available around autumn this year.

Now I´m going to enjoy the weekend - hope you are doing the same!

Jutta had a kids workshop in her studio. It was so fun and sweet and we are already in the planning for
offering a wider range of workshops and creative events in the near future.

My Red Poppy is a cute interior shop with decoration, accessories and vintage furniture for children in Chloet/France.
The shop owners Caroline and Benoît gave an interview for Jurianne Matter and they are also showing herzensart rubber stamps,
which they are carrying. Merciii!

my grandmothers old sewing machine finally arrived in the studio. I can´t tell how much this means to me.

The machine is from 1960 and has no electric engine, I have to use my feet to make her run.

Hello again, I hope you all arrived well in 2011 :) Happy new year to you!

The wallpaper question was finally solved by my husband, who gave me this original fifties wallpaper
(held by ghost hands) as a Christmas gift.
He thought it would make me happy and fit to the studio and he was right. Can´t wait to stick it to the wall.

Did I ever tell you that I´m a paperbag addict? Now you know ;)

And these old wrapping papers, aren´t they just beautiful? It doesn´t matter at all, that I have no any idea yet what
to use it for. Just looking at it makes me happy too.
