A while back Christine from Bandweberei Kafka, an old weaving mill dating back to
1898 asked me if I could imagine to turn some of my LITTLE BRITAIN designs into a limited edition of
woven ribbons. I could´nt hardly believe my luck, my designs woven on museal Jaquard looms.
OF COURSE I COULD, of course I wanted!
Below is a short slideshow to share with you the process, from the very start, making the design by cutting papers,
converting it into a point-paper-design, producing card-to-tape converters,
assembling the more than 100 years old weaving looms with countless small thread spools
and after a lot of clattering and rattling recieving the most beautiful woven ribbons.

I made 3 different ribbon desings, a Grenadier, a red telephone box and the London Bus.
The first 2 will be available soon, the London Bus will be following later.
The selling of the ribbons starts with this event:
ROSENFEST at Bandweberei Kafka on Saturday, June 25th 2011, 11.00 am
a market with nice handmade little things, something tasty and a look around in the old weaving mill.
I will be there with a small stall as well.Later on the ribbons will be available exclusively in my webshop and at Bandweberei Kafka.

well, i would use these lovely ribbons to embellish my bags (especially my school bag full of English books), or some nice fabric baskets, or towels, or pencilcases... so many possibilities!

What a great ribbon. And knowing how they were made make them even greater! I would use it for an england-inspired bookcover for my son who struggles so much with his english classes.
I love the ribbons you´we designed! I´d use the ribbons maybe for my bags or my dogs accessories. What a lovely collar I could make from these ribbons!

I can easily imagine how cool it will look on a piece of clothes - on a little boy's pair trousers or a grown up "girl's" tunic. :))
Die Bänder sind wirklich wunderwunderschön! Ich weiß gar nicht, ob ich mich trauen würde, sie anzuschneiden, wenn ich das Glück hätte, sie zu gewinnen.
Vielleicht würde ich sie zur Dekoration auf eine Tasche aufnähen. Reste kann ich mir dnan auch ganz toll als Applikation vorstellen, man will ja keinen Fitzel der herzigen Grenadiere verschwenden!

ich würde das band für eine kindergartentasche für meinen kleinen sohn nehmen...allerdings geht das noch ein jahr, bis er gehen kann ;0) bis dahin, würde ich das band streicheln und mich riesig daran freuen ;0)

Ich würd ein Stück Band für eine kleine Kramstasche verwenden, die ich immer in der Handtasche habe. Dann kann der Grenadier drauf aufpassen, das sich meinen Kram nicht wieder irgendwo liegen lasse!
Ein Stückchen käm als Einnäher (so in der Naht) an einen Beutel für einen lieben Menschen in London.
Und die restlichen 1,50m würd ich gaaaanz genau überlegen, wozu ich sie verwende, damit ich nichts verschwende.
They look so cool I can't believe it! Your designs and the way they're manufactured makes a perfect story.
I would stick a bit to my moodboard and ponder on what else to do with it. A book cover for my notebook? Incorporate little pieces in my pillows and blankets? Frame some so I can enjoy it every day?

The ribbons are great. So is the slide show! I would sow 1.50 meter on the edge of my long black coat and leave the rest on the spool. It looks so nice! Love to visit Saturday. Such a nice factory.
I love them!!! They are so precious! I would probably just stare at them for a long time until something absolutely perfect popped into my head... but for the time being they would probably be propped up on one of my many shelves containing pictures and souveniers of my travels :)

They are really lovely.
And it is quite difficult to say just one use for them.
Probably will try to mix with a bit of leather just to make a little handbag or a purse. Something informal where the colour of your ribbons make the way out.
Oh die sind wirklich klasse, mal was anderes. Und somit müsste ich dann auch mal was anderes nähen. Was für mich zu Beispiel. Ein schöne Tasche aus schönem grobem rotem Stoff und dann das Webband so richtig in Szene setzen, das wäre toll.
Ich drück mir mal die Daumen! Im übrigen bin ich gespannt, was du da noch so mit machst...

Wow, I can't believe the whole process behind it, thanks for showing us. I would use these lovely ribbons for any of our creations, from a dress, a little pencil case, a handle bag, or maybe some curtains or cushion. Da haben sich Deine Wenigkeit und die Mitarbeiter der Bandweberei wieder selber übertroffen! Und ich fahre statt zum Rosenfest zum vermutlich verregneten Zelten in die Vulkaneifel...buuuh!
Aus diesem Band würde ich neue Schlüsselanhänger für sämtliche Haustürschlüssel machen. Ein wenig Bewachung kann ihr nicht schaden.

Die sind aber auch echt toll gewebt.
What does everyone do with that special piece of fabric or ribbon, you get it home and it's admired. You roll out this new prized piece of textile, matching it with other treasures and fantasize how wonderful it will look with your other precious items. Hours can be lost, days, depending on you imagination, dreaming of all the possibilities.
I like the Bandweberei Kafka and will visit them next Saturday. And I love their and your ribbon(s). I am a felter and could always use ribbons as an eyecatcher on my felted bags. I also love to make braceletts from ribbons.

These are wonderful....so beautiful. I would use this ribbon to decorate a Library Bag for my son who starts school next year.

They're so amazing! Will we be able to purchase them online? One of my ultimate dreams is to visit Britain--I would probably hoard the ribbon until my visit, so I could make a wonderful scrapbook upon my return and include the ribbon.
I love this ribbon even more now that I've seen the process, wow, a whole lot of work goes into it! I'm fairly new to scrapbooking, so I would use it to embellish one of the scrapbooks I'm putting together. I would love to order some of this fabulous ribbon, especially the red telephone booth ribbon, gah!

That beautiful ribbon would look very good on a big funny Londonlike monster, or else I would make a bag in black fleece, so it would look like the grenadiers hat...

Oh, sind die Bänder schön. Toll, dass du zeigst wie sie hergestellt wurden. Einmalig. Ich würde auf jeden Fall Stiftemäppchen damit verzieren. Ich wollte am Samstag nach Wuppertal zur Bandweberei Kafka fahren und jetzt habe ich ja noch einen Grund mehr (hoffentlich kommt nichts dazwischen).

Die Bänder sind so schön geworden. Und dass sie nicht wie all die anderen Webbänder auf neuen Maschinen, sondern in der Weberei von Frau Kafka entstanden sind, macht sie zu etwas wirklich besonderem. Ich habe ein paar sehr englandverrückte Freunde und ich werde ihnen auf jeden Fall was mit den Bändern nähen!

The cutest ribbon I've ever laid eyes on! I would use this ribbon to adorn a quilt/blanket as a gift for my brother and sister-in-laws little one and possibly a collar for my Newfoundland.
So entzückend! Ich werde ein Kleid für die Puppe meiner Tochter nähen. Eine Art Matrosenkleid mit passender Mütze. da würden sich die Bobbies ganz hervorragend eignen!

I would use the ribbons to make collars for my dogs. I think British ribbon collars for a British Bulldog would be very cute:) Renee
Those ribbons are fabulous! I would make a coin purse and and use the ribbon to decorate it. That way the little grenadiers could make sure that no-one would dare steal my coins. :)

Sie würden sich bestimmt auch toll auf Schmink- und Kosmetiktäschchen hervorragend machen und als kleine Applikationen auf Kindersachen...:)!

Oh... hard decision! I'd probably use some for scrapbooking, but use the rest for creating custom-designed school supplies for my boys! They're missing England, now that we're in Bermuda!
