just a quick note to let you know that the herzensart crew is still alive. We are back from the Baltic Sea, where Friederike! and I spent a few wonderful days with our dear friend Cornelia (more pics coming soon). Before leaving to our short vacation, we gratefully recieved mail from Tiel from Australia, who sent us a collection of beautiful papers for collage making as a gift. Together with a scissor and a glue stick, the papers made the perfect material to take with us for the journey. Here´s what came to live in the dawn, while listening to the sounds of the sea and seagulls... our morning collages So long for today, enjoy your weekend!
surrounded by fabrics again ~ and the day is filled with cutting, sewing, embroidering...
Margie from Canada sent me a bunch of vintage treasures a few weeks back. I love them all, but until now I did not have the heart to cut them in twain. Check out Margies beautiful covered sea stones.
I love the stationary by kasaa and have to order some of her cute airmail stickers. Besides her etsy shop, Katrin has a Dawanda shop for German or European customers as well
Hello new week, I will dedicate you to the sewing machine again, which has not seen me for the last days. The paper works had taken possession of my time and thoughts.
After I´ve finished reading the "handmade Nation" book yesterday, I wonder if there are any annual craft fairs and events taking place in good old Germany like Renegade or art vs.craft, just to name a few . Dear crafty German readers if you know events like these please let me know. Thank you!
thank you for yesterdays orders. Your prints are on the way already. New prints of the knights horses will be available soon... first I have to decide if the arrangement is already finished or not, guess not.
not the best weather and light for taking photographs, but I wanted to share my new collage addiction with you.

it´s here! My copy of the "handmade nation" book by Faythe Levine and Cortney Heimerl. I was so looking forward to it and I got not disappointed. Wonderfully creatively made, as expected and a great tribute to "the new wave of craft" in the USA.
"Faythe Levine traveled 19,000 miles to document what has emerged as a marriage between historical technique, punk culture, and the D.I.Y. ethos. For "Handmade Nation" (along with the documentary film of the same name, coming in 2009), she and Cortney Heimerl have selected 24 makers and 5 essayists who work within different media and have different methodologies to provide a microcosm of the crafting community. Participants in this community share ideas and encouragement through websites, blogs, boutiques, galleries, and craft fairs. Together they have forged a new economy and lifestyle based on creativity, determination, and networking. Twenty-four artists from Olympia, Washington to Providence, Rhode Island, and everywhere in between show their work and discuss their lives. "Handmade Nation" features photographs of the makers, their work environment, their process, their work, and discussions of how they got their start and what motivates them."
Watching the indie craft community in the USA from the distance it alwas seems to me that it is like a hughe family, which organizes one art and craft show after the other and enthusiasticly opens galleries to offer platforms for the scene.
Working in my at-home-country-studio often makes me feel like a lonesome cowgirl, weaving thin virtual threads to connect with one or the other from the big community web.
But there is nothing more empowering than the real contact. Meeting like minded people, discussing, thinking about projects, talking about experiences, inspiring each other.
Actually I´m missing that.
Not sure, if I had published the video trailer of the handmade nation film (coming out in 2009)already before. But if so, watch it again and the animated opening title sequence below is a must as well! :o)
I found a box with collected papers I had already forgotten. It is so much fun to cut and arrange the shapes as it is a quick, playful process and very satisfying. Will make some collages again.
